Watching movies was my all time favorite hobby as a child. I watched movies when I wa traveling, before and after school, in the breaks of the school and back home before going to bed. Long story short, I watched every single time. I believed it was called an addiction, at least that’s how my parents called it. Computers and then afterwards the laptops were crashing because I was watching too many movies. But what else did I as a kid have to do when all the other kids were also in their homes? Anyway, first it were science-fiction movies and tv-shows, but soon I knew that this wasn’t my cup of tea anymore. I wanted to go outside, I wanted to travel. And these -recent- movies have made this “wanderlust” go stronger. Enjoy reading!
Me Before You
You’re probably going to wonder why in the name of God this is my number one movie that gives me wanderlust. No, it isn’t a movie where you’re going to see frame after frame some wonderful places in the world. But it is a movie that gave me some serious wanderlust because of its story. It gave me a desire to just live. Because isn’t it true that at some point in your life it can all change? Well, this inspires me to go chase my dreams, before it’s too late.
Louisa Clark is one hell of a kind. She’s always positive minded, but her positivity has been put to trial when she’s going to take care of a paralytic young, rich man. Will has made a decision from the start, when Lou finds out what it is, she’s determined to change his mind. Even though she doesn’t know what Will’s really plan is.
Another movie where you don’t see the whole world frame after frame, but The Choice gives me just like Me Before You a desire to live. The Choice is a movie made after a book of Nicholas Sparks, so you can guess how this movie works. Certainly the end is tissue-worthy. I cant tell you why he has been listed in this blogpost. If I do, I would tell the whole plot. So I guess you better need to watch this movie. But I can tell you that this movie is about making choices and I choose to travel in stead of a 9-to-5-job.
Gabby and Travis, innocent neighbors. At least, that’s how it first seemed when Gabby had a boyfriend. But it soon became apparent that it wasn’t so innocent as they thought. Travis taught Gabby to loosen up and before they knew it, there was this sparkling. But that’s when a typical Nicholas Sparks-moment happened and it changed everything.
Eat Pray Love
Eat Pray Love is a movie travelers NEED to watch. It’s a movie that gives you some serious wanderlust and gives you the time to think your live over. That’s why I love this movie so much. Also because Julia Roberts is the leading actress. But the main reason why I love this movie so much is because I sometimes feel the same way as her. No I wasn’t married and divorced, but I do wonder sometimes -just like Elizabeth Gilbert- what the heck I’m doing.
Elizabeth Gilbert is a beautiful businesswoman that knows what she wants. At least that’s what she thought before the divorce. I’m going to be honest, after the divorce she’s a deep mess. Elizabeth feels that a changing could be an solution and that’s why she’s going on a world trip. She’s going to eat in Italy, pray in India, and is going to search the love of her life in Bali. Yup, who doesn’t want to see this movie?
Ps. I Love You
Hands up in the air if you want to watch a movie where you can’t stop crying. Ps. I Love You is a movie that I saw decades ago. But it still has a place in my heart. Not only because the screen would light up whenever I saw Gerard Butler, there’s also a really deep story in it. And it shows you the beautiful Ireland. The trip that Holly follows, is as a matter of fact the trip that I made back when I was in Ireland.
Holly’s life collapsed into a billion pieces when the funny, optimist Gerry (the man she was deeply in love with) dies because of a brain tumor. That’s why she locked herself up and avoided every contact with the world behind her door. When a couple of friends wanted to cheer her up for her thirtieth birthday, the surprise didn’t come from them, but from Gerry. Gerry outlined a whole trip through Ireland before he died. If Holly wanted more letters, she had to follow Gerry’s instructions.
How do I have to tell this, this movie is certainly a film that travelers need to watch (because it’s about the one of the best-known routes there is in America). But Wild has -without any doubt- a deeper story in it. You’re going to see how fast you can lose your way of life, and how difficult it is to find your way back. A really heart-touching movie, I can tell you that.
The biographical movie Wild is all about Cheryl Strayed. She hiked in 1994 the Pacific Crest Trail, the 4286 km walking route that runs along the American Westcoast. Cheryl lost her way completely when her mother died, she was also divorced and she had destructive behavior. So this movie is about losing yourself, and finding yourself back. Really, it’s recommended to watch this movie.
